Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India, (WBFI) is a registered society based in Chennai with a mandate to promote the sport of Wheelchair Basketball (WCBB) in India. Affiliated to the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) and Paralympic Committee of India, (PCI), WBFI actively advocates and supports players at the grass root level and coordinates their participation in events with the government and other stakeholders with the aim of developing a strong contingent of wheelchair basketball players across States.
2022 AOZ CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR MEN AND WOMEN
2022 AOZ Championships for men and women which will be held in Pattaya, Thailand, from May 16th to May 29th 2022. This will also be the qualification tournament for both the IWBF 2022 World Championships in UAE and the 2022 Asian Para Games in China.
INTERNATIONAL LEVEL TOURNAMENT IN INDIA
WBFI in partnership with the ICRC is planning to host an International Level tournament in India during the month November/December 2022.
This will the first time that an international level wheelchair basketball tournament will be conducted in India.
Organizing such an event is going to be tremendously beneficial to persons with disabilities in India and showcase wheelchair basketball in India, encouraging larger participation in this sport.
A team sport like wheelchair basketball gives wings to people on wheels. In the 7-yr history of wheelchair basketball in India, over 700 players have experienced the life-changing benefits of team sports. Apart from physical benefits, the sport has enabled persons with disabilities, especially women, to gain confidence and start to dream again. Our players have found employment, have started families and are confidently and independently able to direct the course of their future. This is our vision for thousands of persons with disabilities across India.
